Assisi and Sant’Egidio

On the 50th anniversary of the birth of the Community of Sant’Egidio diffused in 76 countries in the various continents, the city of Assisi conferred the honorary citizenship for peace to Prof. Andrea Riccardi. The reason for the award states: “the Community has always worked with loyalty and passion in the peripheries of the world, in favour of the poorest and the weakest, children, elderly and disabled, the homeless, minorities, migrants and refugees,” and “has given an important contribution to peace in many countries struck by war and violence. It practiced with tenacity the “art of dialogue” and continued and diffused the “spirit of Assisi” with the annual encounters of prayer for peace, in a spirit of prayer, and friendship with the poor, and has always been able to be promoters of the message of St. Francis.”
