“TRAVELLING together” 2017 is an event that highlights the Christian journey towards unity.
It is an international gathering for people of all ages, all churches, all backgrounds who are interested in seeking Christian unity together. It offers a unique opportunity to experience a vibrant and living ecumenism with people from all over the world.
It is being organised by the Focolare Movement and will be held at the International Mariapolis Centre in Castelgandolfo, which overlooks Lake Albano, just outside Rome in the famous and beautiful area known as “Castelli Romani”.
The programme will include the weekly General Audience with Pope Francis in Rome and a visit to the catacombs on the famous Via Appia where prayers for unity will be held.
The theme running through the week will be “Jesus Forsaken, Key to Unity”. There will be a presentation of projects and stories from all over the world as well as opportunities for reflection and dialogue.
The gathering will also mark two anniversaries that fall in 2016: the fifth centenary of the Lutheran Reformation, and the 50th anniversary of Focolare’s first encounters with Patriarch Athenagoras of Istanbul.
People from a wide variety of churches from across Britain will be going to Rome for this event. Some will go just for the five days of the event; others are organizing longer trips that will involve some sightseeing before or after the event.
