social ethics, law and justice

The most urgent need for ethics
felt in today’s world
is to re-establish human relationships
in all fields of social life:
from family relationships to those among States and nations.

The ideal objective of a number of
judges, lawyers, professors and students
who operate in the field of law and justice,
is to seek and achieve new “ways” to relate to others,
to which new ethical and judicial forms correspond,
that guarantee justice in all relationships,
for the good of all individuals and the good of society.

Methodology

This objective is reached through the life and action of those working in the field of social ethics, law, justice and public administration.
They share life experiences and views and consult each other and this enables them to find new ways to operate in various areas and carry out their respective roles to safeguard all people and the community.

Implementation

For this purpose, “groups” of operators (lecturers in social ethics and law, magistrates and lawyers, legal officers and public officers, operators at correctional institutions, etc) have been formed all over the world in order to promote meetings with the participation and the involvement of all those who work in a similar environment and who would like to commit themselves for the good of humanity and society. Conventions and other initiatives are made to reach this goal, such as courses to promote an education towards lawful behaviour and initiatives to renew living environments and institutions.

Fields of intervention

Moralization of public life: accomplished through study conventions and, particularly, through the personal and collective commitment to carry out public roles with honesty and transparency, as an answer to the phenomenon of corruption and to establish correct practice in public administration;

Educating towards lawful behaviour: formative and informative activities in schools and in society are held, encouraging the sharing of experiences and witnesses of workers in the areas of justice and administration;

Judicial organization and administration of justice: through the commitment of the various workers involved, all operators involved try to renew their activities with the spirit of the Movement, to make the administration of justice more efficient and responsive towards the needs of individuals and the community.  Various studies, research and conventions with the scope of renewing the administration of law and justice are also held;

Prevention and social recovery: initiatives within correctional facilities for the human and social rehabilitation of inmates and for the improvement of the administration of penitentiary systems. Such initiatives are already taking place in Italy, Nigeria, Cameroon, Spain and in many other countries.  There are various occasions where workers in the penitentiary system, volunteers, psychologists, prison guards, magistrates, ex-inmates, chaplains, prison directors and lawyers are able to exchange views together;

Protection and promotion of human rights: participation and collaboration with International Organizations (UN and NGOs) intended for such purposes, for the study of relative problems and for the promotion of concrete initiatives.

Cultural developments

The experience which has matured in this sector has lead to the formation of the international group “Communion and Law”, the aim of which is to promote doctrinal study and dialogue with institutions and the academic world in the judiciary culture. The convention “Relationships in Law: is there a place for fraternity?” was a first significant event. It was held in Castelgandolfo (Rome) from the 18th to 20th November 2005 with the participation of 700 professors and judiciary workers from 35 countries.
