EDU – Education and Unity

Through an international secretariat, EdU-Education and Unity promotes and coordinates pedagogical study and research at a worldwide level to enucleate the educational theory that emerges from the spiritual experience - comprising Thought and Life - of Chiara Lubich and the Focolare Movement.

Objective

The aim is to develop research on the reasons on which education is based, in order to progressively reach a theoretical synthesis in aid of practice.
It seeks to give rise to a unitary model of research which reveals the strong relationship that must be established between theory and practice, between words and life.

This research particularly aims at underlining the fundamental importance of an education of the relational dimension, based on the commandment of Jesus, “Love one another as I have loved you”, in the prospective of His prayer: “May they all be one”. EdU, therefore, has the duty to express the structural guidelines of a Pedagogy of Unity through specific forms and categories of research and of reflection in the field of education.

Initiatives

Pedagogues, experts in educational sciences and educators, work together to build a culture based on reciprocal love and unity amongst persons groups and nations.  They are committed to dialogue and share their research on educational goals, methods and results through congresses, scientific workshops, forums, seminars and through the publication of articles and themes.

1st International Convention

The objective of the 1st international convention “The Community as Educator”, promoted by EdU-Education and Unity, was that of bringing back to the centre of all interests the relationship between the scholar and the educator, between educators, between groups, between theory and practice. This Congress was held at the Mariapolis Centre in Castelgandolfo from the 31st March to the 2nd April 2006.
