at the last general audience on Wednesday, February 27

Focolare members were present in large numbers for the last general audience of Pope Benedict XVI  to show him their gratitude and closeness. Maria Voce and the members of  the general Council of the Movement were also present.

In a letter  sent to  all the Movement, the President  put foward the Pope’s resignation  as “a calling from God to a new and greater measure of unity”.

Comments, expressing support and appreciation for Pope Ratizinger, came from  many followers of the Focolare Movement, even from  non-Catholics.

Racim, a Muslim from Algeria, said: “I would like to thank him for all that he has given. I expect the next Pope to have always  this fraternal and open attitude towards   other  beliefs, so as to build a world of universal brotherhood”.

Maria Voce added: “We  want to assure you of our vicinity through deep and constant prayers for  this new phase of your life and the life of the Church,  while we firmly believe  in God’s love  as  we are particularly called  to do in this Year of Faith”.

At 12.00 “Time out” for peace

December 28,  2012

Every day at noon,  a moment of prayer to ask God for peace.

Once again, Maria Voce has launched this proposal to all the Focolare Movement and she did so in the presence of 350 youth world leaders of the Movement gathered at Castelgandolfo. An immediate response followed. By the end of the morning, a page on Facebook was already online.

“Only God can intervene in such absurd situations of war and grant humanity the peace it needs” commented Maria Voce, prompted by the news received through letters sent by members of the Focolare Movement in the Middle East. “ We really need strong, powerful prayers with a renewed faith that God can grant us peace”.

The “Time out” was launched by Chiara Lubich back in 1991, during the first Gulf War. It is an appointment for a moment of silence and prayer for peace held daily at noon in every time zone of the world.

This initiative is also supported by many other activities promoted by the Focolare communities in favour of peace and brotherhood in many parts of the world..
