Houston Date Night for Family Unity

A family Word of Life group, which meets in a Houston area parish, recently came up with the idea to organize a Date Night for area couples. The evening had the theme of building unity in the family. The outreach was part of the works organized by the Houston area Spirituality of Communion Committee.

Sixty Five couples attended the evening outing. The evening was a success, giving couples the opportunity to celebrate their relationships and to rediscover the true meaning of the sacrament of matrimony – unity.

Even the preparations were an experience of unity building and thus helped to make the evening an opportunity for couples present to also consider and deepen their marital unity.

The night began with wine and cheese where couples could meet one another and renew acquaintances. The sharing continued during a gourmet dinner wonderfully prepared by an excellent chef from the parish.

During dessert the pastor gave a talk on the Sacrament of Matrimony.

The pastor now considers this endeavor as an important ministry in the parish. He has committed to attending every one of the family Word of Life meetings in the future and supporting the family group financially. He is anxious to see the spirituality of communion grow in the parish and sees this as one way to bring couples together in an atmosphere of building relationships among one another and bringing the parish together.

As he was leaving, the pastor commented, “You are the people of unity and I count on you.”
