Love that can be seen

Christian love is not only an inner attitude, but is shown by concrete facts, by acts that can be seen, starting simply with a smile. This is the invitation Chiara Lubich launches in the following writing. And even if during the pandemic our smile may be hidden behind a mask, there are a thousand other ways to show our love

“Love one another”.[1] This is the vocation of every Christian, but we could also say it is our vocation in particular.

In the last few days I was struck by what was said of the first Christians: “See how they love one another and are ready to die for one another.”[2]

Therefore people could see that each of them was ready to die for the others. This might have been because in times of persecution it was not unusual for one of them to offer to die instead of another. Nonetheless, the fact remains that this measure of love among Christians could be seen.

Generally speaking, we are not actually asked to die, even though we should always be ready to do so. Every act of mutual love should be based on this foundation. …

May all we do show that we are ready to die for our brothers and sisters; whether it is simply a smile, or a gesture, or an act of love, a word or some advice, our appreciation, or a correction given at the right moment.

May our love be seen, certainly not to show off but to make sure we have the powerful weapon of witness.

We too, like the first Christians, often find ourselves in a world without God, a world that is de-Christianized. Therefore we must bear witness to Jesus.

  • Love that is seen is a powerful witness.
My friend lives not too far from my house. We had a get together that one day.

My wife and I had a spontaneous get together with our friend Rosa.
When my wife and I took her home there was an electrical power failure in her
neighborhood. Rosa tried looking in her house for flashlight or candles but
couldn’t find one because of lack of light. She was so grateful and happy for us making the effort
to go home and came back to her with candles. Rosa was so struck , she couldn’t believe that
she would get that kind of help. The moment we realized that Rosa was helpless without light I knew
my wife and myself had to do something so I motioned her so we can get back home right away to get the candles.
That act of love was the most sensible thing to do in that moment . In any other case, we could have done the same
because the call to love is always there.

  • BUON GIORNO. “SIAMO IN UN MONDO SENZA DIO”. E’ QUESTA UN’AFFERMAZIONE MOLTO FORTE E CHE NON TIENE IN CONTO DEI MIRABILI EDIFICANTI ESEMPI CHE CON L’AFFLATO DELLO SPIRITO SANTO POPOLANO PROPRIO QUESTO MONDO A SOSTEGNO E BENEFICIO DI TUTTA LA COMUNITA’ DEI CREDENTI E NON CREDENTI. MI VENGONO IN LUCE QUEI MONASTERI DOVE ANIME ELETTE SPENDONO LA LORO GIORNATA IN STRETTO CONTATTO CON IL PADRE CELESTE E, IN MANIERA INSCINDIBILE, CON LA BEATA VERGINE MARIA. TUTTE QUELLE CELEBRAZIONI EUCARISTICHE, TUTTI QUEI ROSARI E QUELLE INVOCAZIONI CHE SI IRRADIANO NEGLI ANGOLI PIU’ RECONDITI DELLA TERRA NON POSSONO E NON DEVONO ESSERE IGNORATI PER NON CADERE NEL FACILE GIOCO DEL “DIAVOLETTO” CHE CI ISPIRA SENTIMENTI DI PESSIMISMO. LO SPIRITO SANTO CHE SEMPRE RIEMPE I CUORI DI GIOIA E PACE NON CI FA MAI MANCARE IL SUO “ALITO” E LA SUA FORZA RIGENERATRICE. A NOI ESSERE SEMPRE ATTENTI E VIGLI PER NON PERDERE MAI MINIMAMENTE IL SUO AFFLATO.
