Sanze<\/strong>, specialist in Business Ethics and Sustainable Development, underscored some stumbling blocks to development in Africa.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-radici_max wp-image-24336\" style=\"border: 0pt none;margin: 5px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/20110203-09-178x109.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"178\" height=\"109\" \/>There was a strong emphasis <strong>on concrete experiences of entrepreneurs and economists<\/strong> from all around the world, like <strong>Teresa Ganzon<\/strong>, Managing Director of <strong>Banko Kabayan<\/strong> (Philippines), who recounted her experience in microfinance. Present also was <strong>John Mundell,<\/strong> president of <strong>Mundell &amp; Associates,<\/strong> who shared his day-to-day experience in a highly competitive business environment in the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Apostolic Nuncio in Kenya<\/strong>, Archbishop <strong>Paul Alain Lebeaupin<\/strong>, was presented and commented, \u201c<em>I am happy that the Focolare Movement has been able to give this message of the EOC that the Pope feels so strongly about<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prof. John C. Maviiri (<\/strong>Vice chancellor, Cuea) underlined at the end, \u201c<em>A true African development must carry with it the spirituality of communion, a concern for others and solidarity with the needy. This is great opportunity to introduce a new dimension in the curriculum of studies on economics and human developmen<\/em><em>t<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-top_mini wp-image-19017 alignleft\" style=\"margin-right: 10px;border: 0pt none\" src=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/101109-022-200x123.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/>In the days preceding the conference, 23 &#8211; 25 January, \u201cMariapolis Piero\u201d, the little town of the Focolare in Kalimoni (Nairobi), hosted the first \u201c<a href=\"\/\/www.edc-online.org\/en\/publications\/articles-by\/luigino-bruni-s-articles\/1416-un-patto-solenne-che-sa-di-fondazione.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Economy of Communion School<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d for young entrepreneurs from all over Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as EoC events go, this Pan African school has had the most impact<strong>,<\/strong>\u201d Professor Luigino Bruni said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some concrete details: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>The first 15 associates of the future business park at Mariapolis Piero <\/strong>have come forward, and the first funds have also arrived.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Ten entrepreneurs present formally adhered to the EoC with their businesses<\/strong>. They outlined <strong>some concrete projects<\/strong>, starting with themselves. With one business <strong>in Burundi, the Bangco Kabayan will join as partner in a micro-credit program<\/strong>, starting the bank&#8217;s first activity outside the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere, people want to live,\u201d Luigino Bruni commented at the end of the school. \u201c<strong>I was touched by how much the young people here love to study<\/strong>. For them, getting into college is the goal of their life, because it means future. You see people studying at night, below street lamps because they have no light at home.
