{"id":327522,"date":"2015-09-02T04:00:27","date_gmt":"2015-09-02T02:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/usa-dialogue-and-the-difficult-questions\/"},"modified":"2024-05-16T15:01:14","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T13:01:14","slug":"usa-dialogue-and-the-difficult-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/en\/usa-dialogue-and-the-difficult-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"USA: Dialogue and the difficult questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20150901-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-127937 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20150901-02.jpg\" alt=\"20150901-02\" width=\"328\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a>In 1998, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/en\/chiara-lubich\/chi-e-chiara\/\">Chiara Lubich <\/a><strong>established the Education for Dialogue Centre in <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/mariapolisluminosa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mariapolis Luminosa<strong>, <\/strong><\/a>the Focolare\u2019s permanent Mariapolis in the State of New York. For that occasion she wrote: \u201cMay all those who take part in the activities of this centre also feel like builders of this new reality, collaborating with love, patience, mutual understanding and solidarity, in order to create an island of peace and a sign of unity for today\u2019s world. . . may it especially be a school where one learns to live out this love, which is the only thing that can make the peoples of the earth a single family.\u201d  \u201cThese words from Chiara also informed <strong>a recent meeting of August 15 and 16<\/strong> at the North American Mariapolis, titled: <em>Dialogue and the Difficult Questions. <\/em>It was attended by a hundred people and it focused on how to dialogue and communicate with people who think differently.\u201d  <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20180901-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-127938 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20180901-01.jpg\" alt=\"20180901-01\" width=\"328\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/strong>There were also very valuable contributions by four experts in moral theology and political theories from <strong>Fordham University<\/strong> (New York), <strong>Providence College<\/strong> (Rhode Island) and<strong> Georgetown University<\/strong> (Washington D.C.). They write: \u201cWe began with some words from Chiara Lubich on the dialogue that emerges particuarly from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/en\/chiara-lubich\/spiritualita-dellunita\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spirituality of unity <\/a>which, if practiced, helps to transform people\u2019s relationships with eah other.\u201d  <strong>Charlie Camosy<\/strong> (Fordham) and <strong>Amy Uelman<\/strong> (Georgetown), examined the \u201creasons why USA society is so polarized by opposing positions and how the walls between people could be broken down by listening and being open to others.\u201d <strong>Dana Dillon<\/strong> (Providence College) dealt with the delicate relationship between love and truth, based on one of the main points of the spirituality of unity: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/chiara-lubich\/en\/spiritualita-dellunita\/gesu-abbandonato\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jesus forsaken<\/a>.
