On 6-7 July 2012 about fifty people, including professors, researchers and students from various regions of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/en\/focolare-worldwide\/america-sud\/brasile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brazil<\/a><\/strong> gathered inOlinda, north easternBrazilwith an Italian delegation. <em><strong>Agapic Action<\/strong><\/em> <strong>(i.e. action motivated by fraternal and disinterested love)<\/strong> was the central topic of the two-day seminar, and it is also at the heart of the thinking of the group of researchers connected with Social-One. But it is certainly not a common topic for the field of Sociology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Free Gift and Agapic Action: Diaologue Towards A New Prospective for the Social Sciences\u201d <\/strong>was the title of the seminar, which was opened by Brazilian Dr. Vera Araujo who underscored the need for new ideas \u2013 like <em>agape and free gift \u2013 <\/em>to inspire behaviours and the collective dynamic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Twelve hours of intense work.<\/strong> Four conferences and four parallel sessions, enriched by an open dialogue that involved all the participants.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-articolo_1 wp-image-67645\" style=\"margin: 10px; border: 0px;\" title=\"20120801-02\" src=\"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/20120801-02-250x166.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>There were three Italian presenters:<\/strong> Prof. Michele Colasanto from the <strong>Catholic University of Milan<\/strong> who discussed the role of the concepts of agape and free gift in the construction of the common good; Prof. Gennaro Iorio, member of the Department of Sociology and Political Science at the <strong>University of Salerno<\/strong> who, after his presentation of a reflection on the theme of agapic action\u00a0 as developed by Social-One, then spoke on the relationship between agape and conflict; Dr. Licia Paglione, member of the Department of Social Sciences and Communication at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iu-sophia.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Sophia University Institute<\/strong><\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loppiano.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Loppiano<\/strong><\/a>, Florence who proposed a study of the relationship between the concepts of gift and love, beginning with the work of Russian sociologist P. A. <strong>Sorokin<\/strong> (1889-1968).<\/p>\n<p>In the parallel sessions <strong>five projects were developed by Brazilian students and professors <\/strong>from several universities, who are familiar with topics under discussion in a Brazilian academic and social setting.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty year old Maria Julia Izidoro speaks of wide horizons, \u201ctalking about <em>love<\/em> in the lecture halls of a university.\u201d For Maria Eduardo Couto: \u201cA wall has come down between the youth and the old \u201cdinosaurs\u201d of the Social Sciences.
