{"id":342654,"date":"2014-01-01T04:00:05","date_gmt":"2014-01-01T03:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/january-2014-2\/"},"modified":"2024-06-06T12:11:23","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T10:11:23","slug":"january-2014-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.focolare.org\/en\/january-2014-2\/","title":{"rendered":"January 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>In this month in particular, during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Christian Churches and communities remember together that Christ is their one foundation and that it is only by following him and living his one Gospel that they will reach full and visible unity among themselves.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>Christ, the Church\u2019s one foundation<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To base our lives on Christ means to be one with him, to think as he thinks, to want as he wants, to live as he lived.<\/p>\n<p>But how can we be grounded, rooted in him? How can we be perfectly one with him?<\/p>\n<p>By putting the Gospel into practice.<\/p>\n<p>If we live his words, or better, if his words \u2018live us\u2019 to the point of making us \u2018living Words\u2019, then we will be one with him, bonded with him: it is no longer I or we who live, but the Word in everyone. It\u2019s possible to imagine that living like this we\u2019ll contribute to making unity among Christians a reality.<\/p>\n<p>As the body breathes in order to live, so the soul lives by living the Word of God.<\/p>\n<p>One of the first fruits is the birth of Jesus in us and among us. This causes a change in mentality. It injects into the hearts of all (whether European, Asian, Australian, American or African) the same sentiments that Christ had in the face of circumstances, individuals and society. [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>The Word lived sets us free from human conditioning. It gives joy, peace, simplicity, fullness of life, light. It makes us follow Christ, transforming us bit by bit into \u2018other Christs\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>Christ, the Church\u2019s one foundation<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>But there is one Word that summarizes all the others. It is love: to love God and our neighbour. In these two commandments Jesus sums up \u2018all the law and the prophets\u2019 (Mt 22:40).<\/p>\n<p>The fact is that each Word, although expressed in human terms and in different ways, is the Word of God. Yet since God is Love, every Word is love.<\/p>\n<p>How should we live this month? How can we bind ourselves to Christ \u2018the Church\u2019s one foundation\u2019?<\/p>\n<p>Augustine of Hippo once said, \u2018Love, and do what you will.\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> In effect he was summing up the law of Gospel life, because if you love you will not go wrong, you will do God\u2019s will to the full.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><em>Chiara Lubich<\/em><\/p>\n<hr align=\"left\" size=\"1\" width=\"33%\" \/>\n<p><a id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> Homily 7 on the First Epistle of John, 8<\/p>\n<p><strong>First published in January 2005<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Every year the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is held in many parts of the world from 18th to 25th January.
