The Economy of Francesco project organised the interesting webinar which will be the first of the ‘On-Life series towards a post-Covid better world’. In the webinar Prof Jennifer Nedelsky anticipates the contents of her forthcoming book with the proposal of a new structure balancing work, care for others and nature.

Assisi was to be the host town for “The Economy of Francesco” from March 26 to 28. This international event was much desired by Pope Francis and aimed at young economists, entrepreneurs and students or researchers in the field of economics. Three thousand four hundred people had requested to participate and 2000 young people from 115 nations had already been selected when everything had to be postponed until November because of the COVID-19.

In a letter to pope Francis, a representative of the young people, together with the organizing committee wrote: “(…) today also The Economy of Francesco and the many people who are working on this process go through the pain and complexity of the world crisis. We also live this time as a long Lent, like a long Holy Saturday, which is the time of silence, of waiting, but also the time of the care and healing of the wounded body, which awaits the resurrection.
“Holy Saturday is the time of Mary, of women, of their different economy, which is an economy of relationships before money and wealth.
“We don’t stop. The international Coronavirus crisis once again shows how everything is interconnected.
“In light of this dramatic experience, the appointment you gave us appears even more urgent and prophetic. For our part, we will multiply our commitment, integrate the topics, we will organize events and meetings in all possible ways, we will involve other voices and sensibilities.
“Meeting each other will be even more beautiful, for us and for the world that now, more than yesterday, is waiting, a waiting which is different, more on a human scale.”
