In dialogue with contemporary culture
The cultural crisis of the world today is taking place in the context of a historic transition towards new paradigms. It is characterised by fragmentation, particularly in terms of knowledge, ideas and thought. Different cultural worlds not only fail to interact, but avoid each other, brush past each other and even clash, triggering conflictual relationships within the social fabric and at an international level. In this context, it is necessary and urgent to promote a “culture of unity”, a culture of positive values, capable of placing, at the centre of cultural interests, human beings in all their dignity, with their capacity for relationships, as protagonists capable of giving the world a face and a dynamic more in keeping with the aspirations of individuals and of nations.
In this setting, inspired by the spirituality of unity and the life that springs from it, currents of thought are developing that offer cultural proposals based on communion, fraternity, social love, the inclusion of all, etc. These lines of thought form the basis for a dialogue with people from the world of culture, characterised by reciprocity, which unfolds in various disciplines such as politics, economics, ecology, education, art, social communication, psychology, sociology, medicine, law, architecture and sport. This dialogue is promoted by academic and professional study and exchange groups, established in various countries, and the meeting places are conferences, seminars, forums, workshops, as well as the use of the means of communication available today. The dialogue is also carried out through publications and personal contacts with leading figures in the world of contemporary culture. The aim is to offer a wealth of ideas, cultural contributions and constructive existential experiences. This dialogue with contemporary culture is open to all those who see the urgent need to offer a response based on fraternity to today’s challenges.
Arts (Clartè), Education (Edu), Law (CeD), Ecology (EcoOne), Sport (Sportmeet), Economy (Edc), Sociology (Social-One), Medicine (Health, Dialogues, Cultures), Architecture (Dialogues in Architecture), Politics (MPPU), Psychology (Psy-Com) and Communication (NetOne) are the most active sections in the dialogue with contemporary culture within the Focolare Movement and they are often summarised with the expression: The Inundations.
