After the “Harvest Festival” in Dublin’s Marley Grange parish

Padraic O’Sullivan shares a simple action in his parish - simple but a little 'special' as always is the case when things are done together with love.

On Sunday Oct 10 we celebrated a “Harvest Festival” in our parish.

Lots of people brought along nonperishable goods which were displayed at the top of the church and quite an amount was taken in. Fr. Jim Mulherin OSM, our parish priest, suggested giving all the goods to the Capuchin Day Care Centre run by Br. Kevin, in the inner city.

I was wondering how we were going to get all the foodstuff in to Br. Kevin while I was at the ten o’clock mass on Monday morning. At the end of Mass Fr. Jim said that Joe’s van (Joe is a regular parishioner) was outside the front door, and invited people to take a few items on the way out .

We had the van packed in no time! It was lovely to see all the people cooperating in serving the needs of others in a very practical way and really felt like we were putting the gospel into practice together.

As Fr. Jim was unable to travel I offered to go into town with Joe and I can truly say that Br. Kevin was delighted with the goods and really appreciated the gesture of the people of the parish.
