A Day with British Ahmadis in Surrey

A Day with British Ahmadis in Surrey by Roberto Catalano

Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, takes on a different meaning when associated with the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Surrey, England. Established as a spiritual and practical hub near London, this community thrives amidst picturesque surroundings. Its leader, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, elected in 2003, advocates for peace globally through sermons, lectures, and personal interactions.

Recently, my visit to this community, with my colleague from London, revealed its resilience in the face of adversity. Despite facing persecution and restrictions in countries like Pakistan, where practicing Islam as Ahmadis is forbidden, they remain committed to peaceful responses, even in the wake of terrorist attacks on their mosques.

During our visit, we had the privilege of meeting with His Holiness and witnessing his dedication to promoting harmony, as exemplified by his recognition of peace advocates at the Peace Festival. Despite the challenges they face, the Ahmadiyya community continues to uphold its principles, grounded in the teachings of the Quran and the Prophet.

Beyond the spiritual realm, our tour highlighted the community’s environmental consciousness and commitment to fostering a sense of security amidst discrimination and violence in various parts of the world. Engaging with Ahmadi friends living in Italy further underscored the importance of building fraternal relationships.

In essence, our day in Surrey with the British Ahmadis was a testament to their unwavering pursuit of peace and harmony, serving as an inspiring example for those willing to embrace it.
