“Via Chiara Lubich” – new street name in Naples

 
On 2nd May, the Municipality of Naples named a street in honour of Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement. “Via Chiara Lubich” is the new name attributed to the third Giuseppe Garibaldi Traversa in the Pendino district. The naming ceremony took place on Thursday 2nd May, in the presence of the deputy Mayor, Laura Lieto and representatives of the Focolare Movement.
After the ceremony, a meeting organized by the Focolare Movement and the Political Movement for Unity was held in the hall of the University Institute for Linguistic Mediators “IUM Academy School”, in Piazza Nicola Amore 6 ( MPPU) entitled: “From Chiara’s charism of unity a commitment to brotherhood” in which the Tourism councilor part, representing the municipal administration. After a report by Antonio Maria Baggio – director of the IUS SOPHIA Politics and Human Rights Research Center in Loppiano, moderated by Sara Fornaro – Città Nuovajournalist, speakers included Argia Albanese – President of MPPU ITALIA; Michele Auturo – auxiliary bishop of Naples; Cesare Moscato (video) – Chief Rabbi of Naples; Abdullah Massimo Cozzolino – Zayd Ibn Thabit Islamic Cultural Association; Gabriele Bardo – co-responsible of the Focolare Movement Italy and Albania; Maurizio De Giovanni – author.
On 2nd May 1996 in Naples, Chiara Lubich, at a meeting with people involved in politics who were members of the Focolare Movement, inaugurated the Political Movement for Unity, an international network of collaboration and dialogue between citizens, public officials and institutional representatives of different orientations, politicians who choose to put fraternity at the basis of their commitment.
