300 delegates from 40 countries, representing 100 movements and new communities participated in the third World Congress of Eccesial Movements and New Communities, which took place in Rome from 20 to 22 November, 2014. “The joy of the Gospel: a missionary joy” was the theme chosen for this Congress, organized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity, in continuity with the two previous World Congresses held in 1998 and 2006.

The president Maria Voce, the new co-president Jesús Morán, the outgoing co-president Giancarlo Faletti and a delegation composed of Anna Pelli, Severin Schmidt, Gisela Lauber and Marta Chierico participated in the name of the Focolare Movement.

When Pope Francis met the participants, he affirmed “You have already borne much fruit for the Church and for the world. You will bear even greater fruit with the help of the Holy Spirit”. He insisted:“To attain ecclesial maturity, maintain the freshness of your charism, respect the freedom of each person and always strive for communion”, while he concluded by appealing: “Never stop, but always keep moving!”

Paul VI and Chiara Lubich

7-8 November 2014

PaoloVI_ChiaraLubich“Paul VI and Chiara Lubich. The prophecy of a Church in dialogue” will be the theme for the two study days to be held on 7-8 November 2014 at the Mariapoli Centre, Castelgandolfo. These are being organized by Paul VI Institute (Brescia) and Chiara Lubich Centre of the Focolare Movement (Rocca di Papa, RM).

These study days are meant to illustrate the development of a personal and epistolary relationship between Giovanni Battista Montini – Paul VI and Chiara Lubich, which began in the 1950’s and lasted till the end of Montini’s pontificate. In the various talks, where reference could be made to many unpublished documents found at the Chiara Lubich Centre, the participants will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the way Paul VI understood the spiritual and ecclesial significance of the Focolare Movement, its progressive legal and institutional configuration,  its initiative towards the Churches of Eastern Europe and its commitment in the ecumenical field.
