On 11th June, 1988, the International Conference titled “A Culture of Peace for the Unity of Peoples” convened at Castel Gandolfo, offering a profound reflection on the essential principles of fostering global unity and peace. Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement, delivered a timeless address titled “For a Civilization of Unity”, where she articulated a vision rooted in love as the transformative force capable of reshaping society. Lubich emphasized that true peace and unity require a deep awareness of being loved—both humanly and divinely—and a commitment to extending that love into every facet of life. Her words call individuals and communities to engage in a collective journey toward a “new” humanity, driven by a profound sense of spiritual and social responsibility. This address continues to inspire those striving to be builders of peace and instruments of unity in their daily lives and beyond, so much so that part of it was included in the worldwide conference call, “Link Up” of 14th December.
