Poem for Tom by Susan Gately
What makes it so unbearable
Was the manner of your leaving:
Unspeakable act of momentary madness
Took our brave knight away.

[more]Tom’s glasses
Leaning against the wall in the corridor corner.
Arms folded, weight on one leg.
The other foot gently tiptoeing on the floor.
Never full on,
but always ready for an encounter.
Your glasses half way down your nose.
[more]The first New Families’ meeting of 2014 took place on Sunday 26th January. These bimonthly get togethers fill the Focolare Centre in Curryhills with a great buzz as adults and children of all ages engage in their various programmes and activities in an atmosphere of caring and good humour as in various ways each person tries to live out the Gospel law of love. A big thanks goes to Fr. Eddie Moore for coming along to celebrate Mass with us.
[more]Tom was taken from us unexpectedly in the early hours of Sunday morning. He had posted a new profile picture of himself on Facebook. He did not know that he would meet his Lord so soon, or that the circumstances of his death would prove so brutal and senseless. But such is the way it was, and we are left mourning a good and faithful friend, who witnessed to the values he believed in: faith in God, the Gospel, Truth and universal brotherhood.
[more]Every year people make resolutions at this time. Among the favourites are losing weight, getting fit, earning more money, spending more time with family, de-cluttering…… At a deeper level, people experience new hope at the start of a new year.
