Every day a Holy Thursday

During Holy Week 2026, we want to offer an excerpt from Chiara Lubich’s diary written on Holy Thursday, 11 April 1968.

This year, Holy Week found a special resonance in me.

Yesterday, Wednesday of Holy Week, I was especially touched by the reading of the Passion of Jesus. I became aware – and this is so important – of the very new value suffering has in our Christian life. I felt as if I was drawn to this most sublime calling amidst the many voices that fill every day and every moment of our life. Jesus, the “man of suffering”: this is the climax of his vocation.

… Today I feel enveloped by a wave of tenderness. It is the day of the New Commandment, of the Eucharist, of the priesthood, it’s the day when we serve one another.

Jesus reserved so many infinite riches for the last day of His life on earth!

How I wish to make every day a Holy Thursday.

Jesus, you who have chosen us for this pathway, which is so close to your heart, help us to follow it well, every day, until the end.

A group of children in Rome collected 300 euros for the Audio Phonetic Rehabilitation Institute (IRAP) located in Aïn, on the outskirts of Biakout, north of Beirut. They received a very touching letter of thanks. It reminds us of the true value of solidarity and the responsibility to which each of us is called: to be seeds of hope and peace even in the darkness.

For the first time, Chiara Lubich’s account of her mystical experience is being published in its complete form as part of the collection of her works published by Città Nuova. From 8th May it will be available in Italian bookshops and on online stores. Below is an introduction by Piero Coda, who along with Alba Sgariglia edited the publication.
