Focolare Movement in Rome and Earth Day Italy together at Villa Borghese for “Earth’s Village”
«You are doing a good job, transformingdeserts into forests. The deserts in our hearts, in cities, in suburbs and even those in protected areas are unpleasant. The forest is full of greenery, it is very disorderly, but such is life». These words were said by Pope Francis during his unscheduled visit to the Rome Mariapolis at Villa Borghese; one of his surprise visits during this Jubilee Year of Mercy.
Putting aside the written script, while speaking off the cuff, Francis invited those present “to take life from where it comes, just as the goalkeeper does during a football match…. Do not be afraid of conflict, which is in itself a risk and an opportunity. Approaching someone is a risk for me and for the person I approach. But I must never turn my back. We have to take risks”.
Pope Francis concluded this visit by inviting everyone to pray heartily: “Lord, we know that we are all your children, that we are all brethren. We know that each one of us has a mission, to make the world become a better place, so that our brothers and sisters have less suffering, so that mother earth is well cared for, so that many find an opportunity to work and regain their dignity through work. We, all of us your children, ask for your blessing”.
The Complutense University of Madrid hosts the International Symposium “Education, inclusion and solidarity: fields, practices and perspectives”
On April 22, 2016, the Faculty of Education at the Complutense University of Madrid will host teachers and students from various parts of the world, who will participate in the International Symposium “Education, inclusion and solidarity: fields, practices and perspectives”.
This event, organized by Eduforunity and GIAFE (Research Group in Educational Anthropology and Philosophy) will be officially opened by Alejandro Tiana, the Rector of the National University of Education at a distance.
During this Symposium talks will be delivered by prominent professionals in the field of education, namely, Nieves Tapia (Director of CLAYSS, Argentina), Robert Roche (Director of LIPA, Barcellona), Alfred Fernández (Director of OIDEL, Geneva), Juan López Martínez (General Inspector of Education, Madrid) and Jorge M. Dias Ferreira (General Direction of Compulsory Education, Geneva). The topics to be discussed during the three round-table conferences are: inclusion in education for a fraternal society: equality in diversity; inclusive practices, policies regarding differences; inclusion areas, spaces of fraternity.
A number of papers, coming mainly from youth who are doing research work, are to be presented.
This Symposium aims at addressing the subject of inclusion from the point of view of fraternity; hence its relational and community approach, which creates an opportunity for encounter and interdisciplinary dialogue.
Inclusion in education is one of the political priorities and of the objectives of Agenda 2030. Although this has a lot to do with equality and justice, it acquires its full meaning when recognized as a duty towards brotherhood.
On the two following days, 23 and 24 April, there will be the International Seminar on Educational andSocial Inclusion: problems, challenges, strategies. This seminar, organized by Eduforunity, will be held at the Luminosa Mariapolis Centre in Madrid. Participants coming from Argentina, Burundi, Korea, Croatia, Italy, Mexico, Pakistan, Slovenia, Spain and the United States will share the research work they are doing in this field during the workshops at the Seminar.
Eduforunity is also organizing the Congress Conflict, dialogue and the culture of unity. It will take place in Poland on 3-4 June, 2016 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the conferring of the honorary doctoral degree in Social Sciences by the University of Lublin to Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement.
