Luciana Scalacci, who passed away last March, embodied a deep social and political commitment, a profound faith in humanity and its potential, and a passion for dialogue. Together with her husband, Nicola, she made an enormous and invaluable contribution to fostering dialogue within the Focolare Movement, especially with, and among, people of non-religious convictions, through her dedication, generosity, and intelligence.
Closeness and freedom
An interview with Margaret Karram, President of the Focolare Movement, conducted by Peter Forst for the Neue Stadt magazine on closeness, the topic that we are deepening and living this year in the Focolare Movement. This is not only a religious or spiritual attitude, but also a civil and social one, in support of peace and helping the poor, to improve the quality of relationships between people and to respect the other person’s freedom and conscience.
One Jubilee, many Jubilees
2025 is full of significant anniversaries for ecumenism – from the Jubilee of Hope announced by the Catholic Church to the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and the 60th anniversary of the abolition of the mutual excommunications that had previously existed between the Church of Rome and the Orthodox Church of Constantinople. The Focolare Movement is taking the opportunity to celebrate these anniversaries with an international ecumenical conference from 26 to 29 March.

Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. (Mk 10:43-44)

Towards celebrating Easter together
The ecumenical group “Pasqua Together 2025” went to meet the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople and Pope Francis to offer their commitment so that all Christians may celebrate Easter together. Next year, the date of the Orthodox Easter and the one of the other Christian denominations will coincide and the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicaea Ecumenical Council will also be remembered.
