Chiara and her first companions were Catholic Christians in Italy. Therefore the approval and blessing of the Catholic Church on the new movement was very important to them. Early in the life of the movement they spoke to a Bishop Mons. Carlo De Ferrari about their life, ready to give it all up if the Bishop asked them to. Instead the Bishop described them as the ‘finger of God’.
