Extraordinary Communion of Goods for Covid 19 Emergency

At the end of April, the Centre of the Focolare Movement sent a letter to all countries, explaining that an Extraordinary Communion of Goods and a special COVID Fund was launched on 21st April, to meet the needs of those suffering financially due to the Covid emergency. The Fund would help both individuals and families around the world and the Focolare’s little towns whose ability to give witness and to help in the formation of ‘new people’ had been adversely affected.

In order to ensure the transparency in the distribution of the Fund, a ‘Communion of Goods COVID-19 Committee’ has been set up in Rome to maintain global oversight. In response to this initiative, a small committee has been set up in GB to consider how those donations already received for use in GB can be distributed.

The letter goes on to:

give full details of the various bank accounts that can be used to make donations via the Centre of the Movement and the destinations they can be allocated to (e.g. COVID-19 people and families or little towns, youth formation, etc);

emphasise the need to share experiences and remind us about the work of:

  • AMU (Action for a United World) – https://www.amu-it.eu/?lang=en
  • AFN (New Families Projects) – https://www.afnonlus.org/en/causes/long-distance-sponsorship/
  • Economy of Communion – https://www.edc-online.org/en/

Finally, we are urged to seeks ways to promote a culture of communion by working with others organisations, wherever possible, and also to seize the opportunity the current crisis offers us to ‘review our lifestyle and to intensify our witness of mutual love, of fraternity and to build the united world for which we live’.
