What is a Mariapolis? It is an event organised by the Focolare Movement and is characteristic of its spirit: it is a gathering of people of all ages and backgrounds, spending a few days together putting into practice the universal values of the Christian Gospel.
The main guideline for these gatherings, which take place in many countries throughout the world, is the ‘Golden Rule’, which invites us to do to others what we would like to be done to us.
It is an opportunity to experience what happens in day-to-day life when we have listening, gift of self and sharing as the basis for our relationships.
This year’s Mariapolis was hosted by Britain and Malta together on 2nd-3rd October. As in 2020, most of the programme was online, but some local communities met in person and followed the streaming together. This included a group of young people gathered at the Centre for Unity in Welwyn Garden City.

“History’s in the making if you dare” – the lines of a song which opened the first ‘virtual’ Mariapolis in Great Britain, held on Saturday 25th July. Many of the 400+ participants agreed at the end that this indeed had been a day like no other.
