In response to global conflicts and recent riots across Britain, members of the local Focolare Community in Welwyn Garden City are involved in organising a Peace Walk through the town.
Marking the UN International Day of Peace, on Sunday 22 September the walk will start at Campus West (library entrance) at 2.30pm and progress in silence along Parkway, via the Focolare Centre for Unity and the Baptist Church, finishing at the Welwyn Garden City Quaker Meeting House.
Local organiser Michal Siewniak said “This event is an opportunity to show solidarity with people in other countries where there is a lack of peace and unity. The event will not be a demonstration, but an opportunity to show that the best way of solving problems and conflicts is dialogue.”
Attendees will be walking on the pavement, and no placards or banners will be allowed.
At the end of the walk there will be refreshments at the Quaker Meeting House, with music from pianist Helen Shabetai and song-sharer Laura Cowan, as well as some words from Michal Siewniak.
Address of the Quaker Meeting House – 109 Handside Lane, AL8 6SP
