“When you are young,” writes Leahy, “you have dreams, hopes and expectations. Karol Woytyla … was no different.” Believe in Love paints the rich landscape of John Paul II’s formative influences, his theological and philosophical foundations, and his personal reflections. For John Paul, he writes, “God is not way up in the clouds in remote majesty and might.” Rather, the chapters reflect the pontiff’s belief that we need to link our notion of God with our understanding of what it is to be human. Hence we have chapters on dialogue, culture, anthropology, young people, families, artists, politics, economics, work, war and peace, forgiveness, and the elderly. In his very accessible style, Leahy also includes chapters on the major theological contributions of John Paul II, such as his insights on:
- the Theology of the Body
- crisis in the Church, women, the priesthood, and the Movements
- understanding and promoting a Spirituality of Communion
- the Eucharist
- Christ crucified and suffering
- Prayer
- Ecumenical and interfaith dialogue
Short chapters on clearly delineated topics provide the perfect starting point for individual daily reflection or for discussion in a faith-sharing group. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rev. Brendan Leahy is Professor of Systematic Theology at the Pontifical University of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, in Ireland. He is a von Balthasar scholar and an ecumenist and has also authored articles and books on interreligious dialogue, issues facing the Church in the 21st century, the ecclesial movements of the Church, renewal in the Church, and the priesthood.
nella prima parte si richiama l’attenzione sulla questione educativa e il contributo che l’Eucaristia può dare;
nella seconda il ruolo della testimonianza viene specificato con riguardo agli ambiti esistenziali già individuati al Congresso ecclesiale di Verona, che qui sono presentati a partire dalla fragilità umana, per passare alla vita affettiva, al lavoro, alla festa, alla cittadinanza partecipata e concludere con la tradizione della fede;
nella terza parte si collega il sacramento alla cultura e alla pastorale, con riferimento alle categorie di persona e di comunità, di pluralità, di fratellanza e di dialogo.

“Won’t I be able to run anymore? Won’t I be able to walk anymore? Won’t I be able to practice sports anymore? All my friends… my tennis… the mountains… the beach… Mom, is it fair to die at 17?” Filmed on location in Italy, this powerful film tells the story of Blessed Chiara Badano from her childhood to her beatification in 2010. It features interviews with her parents, friends, doctors, and the family of the young man who was miraculously healed through her intercession. Born in 1971, Chiara was a typical teenager in many ways. Hear, in Chiara’s own words, her excitement about a simple and profound encounter with God at age 9 as well as her continued commitment to sharing her life experiences, including her illness, with her friends. At 17, a searing pain in her shoulder revealed that Chiara had bone cancer. “The illness arrived just at the right moment because I was going in the wrong direction,” she wrote. Her friends continued to strengthen their unity with her by sharing their daily experiences of living out the Gospel. They note that Chiara didn’t talk much about God. Chiara herself said, “Talking to people about God doesn’t count for much. I have to give God to them.” Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the path of Chiara Badano and the motto she lived during her 3-year-long illness: “It’s for you, Jesus. If you want it, I want it, too.” “God’s response to the cultural crisis in each generation is to send us Saints. Indeed, the history of the Western World is a history of Saints. Chiara Luce is God’s response to the cultural crisis of today. To a postmodern world forgetting reasons for hope, God sends his light through a teenage girl who lost everything and never lost her joy. The DVD you hold in your hands is a beautiful telling of her story.” Christopher Stefanick Speaker/Author & Director of Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministry for the Archdiocese of Denver “In today’s world that seems so full of darkness comes a beautiful and humble story of a young girl’s light shining brightly into the world. The simple, yet powerful, life of Chiara Luce shows our young people that Sainthood is within reach. This movie will spark conversations among people of all generations on issues of joy, love, and redemptive suffering. Watch it. Share it. Live it.” Jason Deramo Middle School & High School, Youth Minister in the Archdiocese of Boston & Life Teen Area Contact www.newcitypress.com
