Opening new doors

 
Eileen McQuade reports from Falkirk about how the members of a parish started to tackle the ecological crisis they were facing.

Last September, our bishop accepted a Silver Eco Award on behalf of our parish from EcoCongregation. This was the third EcoCongregation Award received by a Roman Catholic Parish in Scotland. The award came less than a year after the Care for Creation Group was formed in the Parish. If we had known what the following year would involve, we would probably have disbanded before getting started! Instead, we simply took one step at a time. Pope Francis’s encyclical, Laudato Si’, sees global warming, loss of biodiversity, social isolation, etc. as consequences of broken relationships with one another, with Creation and with God himself. So, renewing these relationships became our focus.
